LAIKS DEJOT 2023

From June 12–17, the international contemporary dance festival Laiks dejot 2023 takes place in Riga and Stāmeriena, highlighting the Caucasus region’s contemporary dance alongside artists from Latvia, the UK, Hungary, and Moldova.

This year’s focus is on little-known dance scenes from Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, curated with Tamuna Gurčiani (Georgia). The program includes performances, films, discussions, and masterclasses, encouraging cultural exchange and new artistic connections.

The festival opens with the ritual performance “Tornado” at Riga Circus and continues with premieres, solo shows, and innovative works—such as a nude-audience performance by Hungarian artists. Events take place at Zirgu Pasts, Eduards Smiļģis Theatre Museum, Dirty Deal Teatro, NOASS, and Riga Circus.

The final weekend at Stāmeriena Palace features outdoor shows, traveling performances, and workshops in a unique setting, closing the festival with a celebration of diverse voices in contemporary dance.
