LAIKS DEJOT 2016
The 2016 Laiks dejot festival took place in Riga from 8 to 12 June, featuring a rich program of contemporary dance performances by Latvian choreographers, students of the Latvian Academy of Culture, and international artists from Norway, Estonia, Italy, France, and more.
Highlights included Francesco Scavetta’s piece “Almost Never”, exploring truth and lies; Estonian company Fine5’s performance inspired by J.S. Bach’s music; and solo works by Andrea Kostanco Martini addressing presence and power on stage.
At the floating art center Noass, Eva Klimackova’s “Loss of Perception” merged dance, visual art, and avant-garde poetry, while Agate Bankava’s “Fafabulala” examined communication and subjective truth. Robbie Singe’s solo “Duglass” portrayed solitude through simple physical actions.
Additional events included a choreography concert by Latvian students and the premiere of “Turku kafija”, a collaboration between Slovenian choreographer Branko Potočan and Latvian company Ārā. Workshops were also offered.
